According to the statement, journalists and writers for important newspapers such as Die Presse, Berliner Zeitung, Der Tegesspiel, La Tribune, Die Welt, Suddeutsche Zeitung and others, are with growing frequency showing a balanced picture of the current situation in the southern Serbian province.
The media mentioned write objectively on the behaviour of chief figures involved in the negotiations on the future status of Kosovo-Metohija and the possible consequences of unilateral declaration of independence for the province.
The said media are increasingly critical of the events which led to the NATO military action in 1999, the policy of EU and the US which showed commandants of militant Kosovo Albanians as political leaders, including winner of the recent elections held in the province Hashim Thaci, and the role which the US has in formulating EU policy towards Serbia and Kosovo-Metohija.
At the same time, there is far more understanding for the arguments and stand of Belgrade in the process of negotiations on the future status of Kosovo-Metohija, as well as recognition that Belgrade with its proposal of substantial autonomy is making huge concessions to the Kosovo Albanians, which they are persistently turning down.
The ministry hopes that such reporting on the issue of Kosovo-Metohija will continue and will have a positive effect on key decision makers in EU countries. This could contribute to finding a just solution based on compromise for the issue of the future status of the province, which would be in the interest of its population and the European future of the entire region.
