At a presentation “eSEE Agenda Plus” in the Serbian Chamber of Commerce, Vasiljevic said that this document, which presents a regional plan of activities for development of information society from 2007 to 2012, and harmonisation of regulations in countries in the region with EU legislation in the area of e-administration, is of a national, regional and European character.
He said that the document was supported by the Serbian government and countries of South East Europe. He explained that the agenda is based on the European initiative for development of information society titled “e2010”.
Chair of the Stability Pact’s eSEE Initiative Marijana Vidas-Bubanja said that Serbia’s activities in implementing this agenda would involve cooperation between the private and public sector, as well as liberalisation of telecommunications through development of broadband networks and adoption of EU legal regulations.
Vidas-Bubanja added that all countries signatory to the eSEE Agenda Plus have similar problems in the area of ICT technologies such as insufficient capital, problems with hardware, software, telecommunications development and inadequate computer literacy.
It was said at the presentation that the basic elements of the agenda are development of a single information space in South East Europe which brings together existing electronic media, new digital media and internet.
Priorities include strengthening of communications research and education in cooperation with the private sector, as well as promoting employment in accordance with viable development of better public services and higher living standards.
