In a statement to the Tanjug news agency, Kostunica said that in the past period Serbia has been daily exposed to such external pressure and outright threats that can be termed as violence over Serbia and its citizens, to which a proper response must be found.
He stated that the most powerful Western countries demand that Serbia wilfully gives up on its province and becomes an accomplice and partner of those countries in the task of dismembering Serbia and creating a new Albanian state.
It’s time to decide whether Serbia will succumb to this violence and become the first state in Europe, after the humiliating Munich Agreement, to have its territory taken away from it by Western powers, said the Prime Minister.
I am convinced that being an ancient and European people, our only answer to this is to tell the Western powers that we have heard all their threats and offers of rewards if we agree to become their accomplices, but that Serbia has faith in law and justice and rejects both all threats and rewards, stressed Kostunica.
He recalled that this is not the first time Serbia has faced such a choice and its answer has always been known.
According to Kostunica, Serbia defends itself from violence with law, which means that in line with the Serbian Constitution and the UN Charter, it will always think of Kosovo-Metohija as an integral part of its territory and consider all Serbs in the province as its citizens.
Unilateral independence simply does not exist for Serbia and it never will, warned the Prime Minister and added that by right, Kosovo-Metohija belongs only and solely to Serbia and no one can ever take it away.
Since violence cannot be the means to seize that which belongs to Serbia, because we will not acknowledge it, we are sending word to all and sundry that Kosovo-Metohija is Serbia and that threats and violence can only strengthen the deep-rooted historical awareness of the Serbian people that the province cannot be separated from Serbia, concluded Kostunica.
