Kostunica is leading a delegation of the Serbian government in Banjaluka on occasion of marking the day when the peace agreement was reached in Dayton, and opening a new building of the Republika Srpska government. He said that Serbia believes that international law is there to be respected.
When I say this, I have two things on my mind. Serbia insists that an important international document, the UN SC Resolution 1244, which defines Kosovo-Metohija as an integral part of Serbia, should be respected, stressed the Serbian Prime Minister.
According to Kostunica, similarly, Serbia as a country signatory to and guarantor of the Dayton Agreement, strongly insists that this document should be respected in its essential assertion which envisages the existence of Bosnia-Herzegovina as an internationally recognised state, consisting of two equal entities.
He expressed satisfaction over the fact that Republika Srpska is making steady progress and that he is visiting it once again.
This is a joyous day for Republika Srpska and we are here to share this joy with you. The Republika Srpska government has a new seat now and this speaks of progress, stable development and of further steps which Republika Srpska will firmly take forward, said Kostunica.
He stressed that there is a special connection between Republika Srpska and Serbia reflected in the agreement on special parallel relations, which directs us to intensify this cooperation and strengthen economic, political and cultural ties.
Serbia is a major investor in Republika Srpska, but we wish to invest even more. This is an opportunity to renew our firm belief and stand. The Serbian government supports the Republika Srpska government and all its institutions in efforts to protect their position, precisely in the manner guaranteed by the Dayton Agreement, said Kostunica.
Republika Srpska Prime Minister Milorad Dodik expressed satisfaction over the Serbian Prime Minister’s visit to Banjaluka, and said that opening of the new complex of government buildings is a matter of great pride for Republika Srpska.
The opening ceremony of the new complex of buildings which now officially houses the Republika Srpska government was attended by top officials of Republika Srpska, as well as Serbian representatives in joint institutions of Bosnia-Herzegovina, representatives of the international community and religious communities in Bosnia-Herzegovina.
The new seat of the Republika Srpska government spreads over an area of 42,000 square metres, and a sum of more than €100,000 was invested in its construction.
The General Framework Agreement for Peace in Bosnia and Herzegovina was initialled in Dayton on November 21 in 1995, and as of that year this day has been observed as a national holiday in Republika Srpska.
