In a paper published in the supplement to the Vecernje Novosti daily, devoted to the 12th anniversary of the Dayton Agreement, Kostunica recalled that Serbia is a signatory and thus a guarantor of this agreement, which means it has full and legitimate right to insist that the agreement should be respected and implemented to the letter.
He pointed out that the respect of the Dayton Agreement inevitably implies the fact that Bosnia and Herzegovina, as an internationally recognised state, is composed of two equal entities.
According to the Dayton Agreement, Serbia has
special parallel relations with Republika Srpska and thus a legitimate interest to develop versatile cooperation with it, stressed the Prime Minister and added that in the previous period Serbia was among the largest investors in Republika Srpska.
According to him, these are all important reasons for Serbia to be interested in the stable development of Bosnia and Herzegovina.
Speaking about measures employed by High Representative to Bosnia and Herzegovina Miroslav Lajcak, Kostunica said that they can best be judged by determining whether they have helped improve the stability in Bosnia and Herzegovina or not.
Since according to many relevant assessments Bosnia and Herzegovina is still in crisis despite all that Lajcak has done, it is obvious that his measures were wrong, noted the Prime Minister.
He emphasised that this is not the first time that the international community has had inaccurate assessments and thus made decisions which afterwards caused a number of other crises.
A more sober view of the situation tells us that the decisions which caused the current crisis should be either revoked or amended in line with the Dayton Agreement, explained Kostunica.
He stressed that the Serbian government endorses the stances of the Republika Srpska government and institutions regarding the full protection of Republika Srpska guaranteed by the Dayton Agreement.
