At the opening of the 15th Telecommunications Forum Telfor, Smiljanic stressed that next year the Ministry will pay special attention to education on information science beginning with elementary schools and all the way up to the university level.
She stressed it is very important to stimulate the development of the Serbian information and telecommunications industry because the country’s greatest problem – the foreign trade deficit – could thus be solved.
Smiljanic added that the information and telecommunications industry is one of the branches that need least investment, adding that Serbia has very competent staff in this sector.
She also said that the Ministry she is heading is focused on the liberalisation of the telephone market because thus further investments will be encouraged and the competition will increase the quality of telecommunication services.
More than 2,000 experts will take part in the three-day forum which is taking place at the Sava Centre and over 150 scientific papers will be presented, while 46 telecommunications companies will take part in the accompanying exhibition.
Telfor is organised by the Telecommunications Society from Belgrade, Telekom Srbija, postal company PTT Srbija and the Faculty of Electric Engineering. This year’s partner country of the forum is Croatia.
