Jeremic said at a joint press conference with Verhagen that Serbia advocates a peaceful and compromise solution and that it will continue to do so even after December 10, when the troika of EU, US and Russian representatives will submit a report on the negotiations to the UN Secretary-General.
Serbia believes that only a compromise solution, accepted by both sides, will enable continued building of European future, the Minister reiterated and warned that a unilateral proclamation of the Serbian southern province would be a bad move that would jeopardise regional stability.
Verhagen said that he fully agrees with the Serbian foreign minister that it is of vital importance to find a solution for Kosovo based on agreement and to avoid unilateral moves.
The new phase of negotiations scheduled to begin on November 20 in Brussels is of crucial importance. He stressed that attempts at prejudicing the outcome of negotiations are not helpful.
During his two day visit to the Netherlands, Jeremic also met with Hague Tribunal’s Chief Prosecutor Carla Del Ponte and conveyed to her that there is complete political will in Belgrade to fully cooperate with the tribunal.
Full cooperation with the Hague Tribunal is our priority, not just in the context of European integration, rather due to the fact that we believe that full cooperation between all countries of the West Balkans and the Hague Tribunal is a precondition for reconciliation without which we cannot get closer to a European future, said Jeremic for the news agency Fonet.
He said that conclusion of cooperation with the Hague Tribunal should be seen as a means to reconciliation in the region, otherwise guilt for war crimes will remain an individualised issue.
I conveyed to Minister Verhagen and Carla Del Ponte that Serbia is committed to full cooperation with the tribunal, and that means apprehending and handing over all Hague indictees who are still at large, concluded Jeremic.
