In an interview with today’s issue of "Vecernje Novosti" daily, Jeremic said that most important for Serbia is that UN SC Resolution 1244 remains modality within which negotiations are conducted toward a compromised solution to the future status of Kosovo-Metohija.
In the light of another round of negotiations on the future status of Kosovo-Metohija, which is due to take place in Brussels on November 20, he stressed that Serbia wants a compromise on the status adding that without a compromise this process cannot be completed.
Another question is how that compromise is reached, he said noting that the Contact Group’s mediating troika has the mandate to decide on the style of how negotiations are conducted.
The Minister said that ever since the troika has been mediating in the negotiations, the delegation of Kosovo interim institutions has not come up with a single proposal but request for talks on post-status relations.
Pristina showed no readiness to get involved directly in the discussion on any status solution but full independence, said Jeremic.
According to him, if the Balkans is on its way toward the EU, where decisions are made by a consensus, then Kosovo status by no means can be set until all stakeholders agree on the status issue.
This is the most important argument in talks with our European collocutors: a solution cannot be imposed to any side as that is not in line with European values of the 21st century, he stressed.
Jeremic voiced hope that there will be chance by December 10 for the two sides to get closer although the sides will certainly not take equal stands.
I am convinced that even after that date it make sense to continue the talks. Many in the international community still believe that continuation of talks after December 10 is logical only if there is a clear progress in making stands of Belgrade and Pristina closer, the Minister pointed out.
