Samardzic said that the problem of Kosovo-Metohija is a challenge for science and that scientists should also deal with it, and not only diplomats and politicians.
The problem of Kosovo-Metohija is a latent conflict that has been toned down in the past eight years with the presence of the international community, but there remains the question of its lasting solution that should not be reached lightly and in favour of one side only, Samardzic said.
Dean of the Belgrade Faculty of Law Mirko Vasiljevic that this conference shows that students are worried whether the law, especially international law, will survive and confirm itself as a universal value, or will lose the battle against the logic of anti-law and force.
International law is not entitled to promote the right to secession in the case of Kosovo-Metohija, because translating that anti-law into the world of law means giving legitimacy to its use in many other cases worldwide, Vasiljevic said.
He added that students of this oldest legal institution in Serbia have the right to warn the international community and one part of it that is asking legitimacy for the logic of power, that the logic of momentary interest should not prevail over the logic of law.
This three-day meeting will gather students from twenty European countries and international and domestic experts. Its opening was attended, among others, by representatives of religious communities in Serbia.
