Commenting on a statement made by Riecker that “an official at the Ministry for Kosovo-Metohija, Dusan Prorokovic, has threatened that all Serbs who vote at the elections in Kosovo-Metohija will lose their jobs and salaries”, the State Secretary said that there is a certain number of Serbs in Kosovo-Metohija who are simultaneously receiving salaries from Kosovo interim institutions in Pristina and the Serbian budget, and this area must be regulated.
Under the Serbian Labour Law, an employee cannot have two employers, hence all those who get two salaries or have two employers must decide which job they want to keep, the State Secretary stressed in a written statement.
He recalled that such employment regulation exists in a large number of countries, adding that he does not see how issues of employment legislation may be linked with upcoming provincial and local elections in Kosovo-Metohija.
According to Prorokovic, if the UNMIK Chief wishes to improve the situation he should deal with recent statements by Albanian politicians, which could be interpreted as threats.
He explained that he is particularly referring to the statement that the interim assembly of Kosovo-Metohija will unilaterally declare independence at the end of the current phase of negotiations on the future status of Kosovo-Metohija.
Such threats go against UN SC Resolution 1244 and the UNMIK Chief has the authority and means to hold accountable anyone who makes them, concluded Prorokovic.
