The Ministry of Economy and Regional Development says in a statement that the collocutors shared the data on economic development and discussed economic and trade cooperation between Serbia and China, assessing it as successful.
We also put forward concrete proposals for further improvement of this cooperation with the reduction of the imbalance in our countries’ goods exchange, said Dinkic following the session of the mixed committee.
The basic message I told the Chinese side at today’s talks concerns the necessity of reducing Serbia’s foreign trade deficit with China. This year it will exceed $1 billion. The only way to alleviate this in the upcoming period is to substitute a portion of Chinese import. Therefore, I suggested that strong Chinese companies in the field of electronics and IT should invest in Serbia and make new factories here to produce computer and TV casings so that computers and TVs can be assembled here, explained Dinkic.
As for the car industry, he said that instead of importing goods from China, the Serbia-Chinese cooperation should look to stimulate the production in Serbia so that Serbia could reduce its foreign trade deficit with China.
He also said that the Chinese side have voiced understanding for this proposition and suggested a research into whether there are interested partners in Serbia for joint investments with some Chinese companies.
I also spoke with representatives of several telecommunications and IT companies. They are really very advanced and we should certainly try to start producing such components in Serbia and thus reduce the volume of our import from China, stressed Dinkic.
