Jocic and Petkov told the press that they agreed on the necessity to intensify and harmonise operational police cooperation and that this agreement is based on the memorandum between the two countries signed in 2003.
Jocic recalled that Serbia and Bulgaria are on the “Balkan route” that criminals use for drug smuggling and human trafficking.
He expressed belief that the signed agreement will contribute to a more successful fight against organised crime.
The successful implementation of this document will help strengthen economic ties, Jocic said recalling that thanks to good police cooperation, transit of goods on rail crossings has been improved in the previous period.
Petkov pointed out that this agreement is of great importance for the region and the EU and also recalled that police directors of Serbia and Bulgaria already established good cooperation whose result is a series of successful actions in the fight against organised crime.
Petkov announced that Bulgaria will support the establishment of a centre for fighting organised cross-border crime on the Danube River, noting that Belgrade should be the seat of this centre.
He expressed readiness to sign an agreement with Serbian police officials to offer Serbian police members the use of Bulgarian resorts and the opportunity of getting education in Bulgarian police academies.
The Bulgarian police is ready to share experiences with Serbian colleagues, Petkov said and recalled that that operational cooperation between Serbian police and Bulgarian police has been put on a significantly higher level.
