Serbian Prime Minister Vojislav Kostunica said today, one year following the adoption of the new Constitution of Serbia, that now we can realise the great importance of the new Constitution for the overall development of Serbia and stability of its democratic institutions.
“The Serbian government today established a whole series of laws envisioned by the Constitutional Law and we are sure that Serbian parliament will very soon pass these laws arising from the new Constitution.
It is primarily thanks to Serbian citizens that we have a new Constitution, which has proved to be a reliable foundation on which we build the progress of Serbia and we can only imagine how more difficult it would have been for us if there was not for people’s will to pass the Constitution promulgated on St. Demetrius Day.
Our most important argument for defending the country’s sovereignty and territorial integrity is based on the new Constitution of Serbia as we most strongly insist on respect of law – both international, in the form of UN SC Charter, and domestic, in the form of the Serbian Constitution.
On the basis of legal safety that the new Constitution has brought in the previous year, the country recorded an economic growth, which all speaks that we can be satisfied for having established a firm constitutional foundation for the development of Serbia,” the Serbian Prime Minister said in a written statement.
