Government authorises Djelic to initial SAA

Serbian Minister of Finance Mirko Cvetkovic said that following the announcement by EU Enlargement Commissioner Olli Rehn that the Stabilisation and Association Agreement (SAA) will be initialled tomorrow in Brussels, a telephone session of the government was held where Serbian Deputy Prime Minister Bozidar Djelic was given authorisation to initial this document.
In a statement to the news agency Tanjug, Cvetkovic said that initialling the SAA will be very important for Serbian economy since this shows that the country has successfully implemented reforms.
The Minister said that after the initialling, and soon after signing, Serbia will have the first formal document through which the state may declare itself a serious candidate for entering the EU, while candidate status will follow later.
According to Cvetkovic, the initialling of SAA will be one more incentive for Serbia to continue with reforms so that latter steps towards joining the EU are easier.
