Serbian Prime Minister Vojislav Kostunica stressed today in talks with Foreign Minister of Cyprus Erato Kozakou-Marcoullis that Serbia values the stand taken by Cyprus regarding respect of international law and safeguarding Serbia’s territorial integrity and sovereignty.
Kostunica stressed that the solution for the issue of the future status of Kosovo-Metohija must be found within the framework of UN SC Resolution 1244, which explicitly guarantees the sovereignty and territorial integrity of Serbia and substantial autonomy for the ethnic Albanian minority in the province.
He emphasised that only a compromise validated by international law, the UN Charter and Resolution 1244 can guarantee peace and stability.
He warned that any unilateral act by the Albanian separatists will be considered null and void by Serbia.
Kozakou-Marcoullis stressed at the meeting that international law and the territorial integrity of states must be respected. She pointed to the fact that Nicosia supports the principled stand of Belgrade in the negotiations on the issue of the future status of the province.
She stressed that it is necessary to find a compromise which would uphold Resolution 1244 and the UN Charter.
It was jointly stated that relations between the two countries are excellent.
