Serbian Prime Minister Vojislav Kostunica said at the meeting with UN Assistant Secretary-General for Peacekeeping Operations Edmond Mulet that today, on the UN Day and 62 years from adoption of the UN Charter which is the foundation of the world order, it is unimaginable that the Charter and international law are being violated and that part of Serbia's territory is illegitimately taken away from her by force.
Kostunica underlined that from the very beginning of Kosovo negotiations, Serbia has been firmly advocating respect for international law and the UN Charter, which guarantees sovereignty and territorial integrity to all member states.
The Serbian Prime Minister pointed out that the current UN Security Council Resolution 1244 is the framework for finding a compromise solution for the future status of Kosovo-Metohija and pointed out that only the UN Security Council has the mandate to bring decision on the province's future status.
At the same time, he warned that any violation of Resolution 1244 and unilateral moves made outside the UN Security Council would have dangerous and immeasurable consequences not only for the region, but for the entire international order.
Mulet said that the Security Council remains to be the framework within which the decision on the future status of Kosovo-Metohija must be made and added that Belgrade has a constructive role in the negotiating process. He voiced hope that the two sides will find a solution through negotiations.
