At a seminar on quality control of food products being held in the Palace of Serbia, Vujovic said that Serbian legal regulations should be harmonised with laws which are implemented in the EU and to demands by the WTO since Serbia intends to become member of both these organisations.
He recalled that most of the regulations in this area have been drafted and they contain the decrees valid in the EU. He added that currently one of the most important laws for Serbia is the food safety law, which is now in the final phases.
Speaking on the quality control implemented by the state, Vujovic said that new regulations envisage certain changes, according to which producers will have more responsibility than the state.
According to Vujovic, the new concept of legal regulations implies that inspection services in Serbia will change their work methodology.
Regular quality control is implemented in Serbia for plant products which includes domestic produce as well as imported items, said Vujovic.
He said that the most frequent irregularity in this area is incorrect product name in the product declaration.
The seminar, “Quality Control of Food Products” is being held as part of the programme, “Support to Serbian government in Administering European Funds”, in cooperation with the Spanish embassy in Belgrade, Spanish Agency for International Cooperation – Office for Technical Assistance to the Balkans (AECI – OTC Balkans) and the Serbian Ministry of Agriculture, Forestry and Water Management.
