Jeremic told journalists that he asked for French support for the initialing of Stabilisation and Association Agreement (SAA) and said he encountered understanding.
France understands the necessity of Serbia’s European road and I think that we can expect French support both now and in our future steps along that European road, the Minister said.
He also told Kouchner that support from Paris is very important at this moment and expressed expectation that support for Serbia’s European integration as well as its position toward Kosovo future status will follow in the upcoming weeks.
This period should really be used for negotiations, the Minister said and added that we should focus on the negotiating process and not what will happen if this phase of negotiations fails.
Jeremic said that all energy should focus on finding a compromise solution so that the whole Western Balkans could be allowed to join the process of integration in Europe and added that France offered its support for such position.
Speaking on whether Kouchner had informal meetings with Pristina negotiating team as part of the process led by the negotiating “troika”, Jeremic noted that this was part of France’s bilateral efforts to contribute to finding a compromise solution to the Kosovo-Metohija status settlement.
France is one of EU leaders and is actively participating in the negotiating process, Jeremic said adding that Belgrade hails every diplomatic effort toward a compromise solution.
