In a written statement, Nikolic said that at the talks in Brussels, Belgrade will present its detailed plan of the province’s substantial autonomy with international guarantees for the status of Kosovo Albanians as the most privileged national minority in Serbia.
She stressed that despite attempts of certain Contact Group members to prejudge the outcome of the talks and thus make them pointless, Belgrade is emphasising once again that the forthcoming direct talks in Brussels are a new opportunity for an agreement between Pristina and Belgrade.
According to Nikolic, Belgrade’s message to the Pristina negotiating team is that they should overcome their fear of a direct dialogue with Belgrade because in the course of the talks ethnic Albanians in Kosovo-Metohija cannot lose anything they already own.
Contrary to that, the Pristina team will be given a chance to be a part of the solution to the Kosovo-Metohija issue reached through a partnership. Albanians from the province would thus permanently protect their interests and open a huge space for cooperation with Belgrade and Serbs in Kosovo-Metohija, said Nikolic.
We are once more inviting ethnic Albanians to be truly devoted to the negotiating process and to reach an historic agreement on the province’s status together, thus giving both our peoples’ an opportunity to create a normal, safer and prosperous future for our children, concluded the ministry’s spokesperson.
