Serbia interested in establishing strategic cooperation with Gazprom

Serbian Prime Minister Vojislav Kostunica pointed out today in a meeting with Chairman of Gazprom Management Committee Alexey Miller that Serbia is interested in establishing strategic cooperation with Gazprom, one of the leading companies in the worldwide energy sector.
Kostunica also stressed that energy plays a decisive influence in the economic development of Serbia.
The memorandum on understanding signed last year with Gazprom which envisions construction of a gas pipeline through Serbia is of great importance, it was agreed at the meeting.
Energy development projects were discussed and it was concluded that Serbia could become a regional leader in this sector.
The two sides agreed to hold regular meetings in order to promote cooperation in the field of energy.
The meeting was also attended by Serbian Minister of Energy and Mining Aleksandar Popovic and Russian Ambassador to Serbia Aleksandar Alekseyev.
