Kostunica told Tanjug news agency that in New York Serbia offered a compromise and democratic solution to the Albanian side, guaranteeing the most privileged national minority status anywhere in the world.
We invited the Kosovo Albanians to consider the establishment of the most privileged national minority status, Kostunica said and stressed that Serbia is ready to accept any suggestion and proposal either from the Albanian side or the “troika” which is based on the position that any other national minority in the world enjoys.
The constitutional guarantee that Serbia will fully respect the agreed most privileged national minority status of the Albanian ethnic group will be provided through functional and substantial autonomy for Kosovo-Metohija within Serbia.
Only a democratic solution for the position of Albanian national minority in the province can guarantee stability and peace, Kostunica said and stressed that violent and unilateral solutions on the basis of which the Albanian minority in Serbia would try to create another Albanian state represent an extremely dangerous precedents which can jeopardise not only the Balkans, but the entire international order.
The Prime Minister explained that Serbia’s goal is to secure development and prosperity of the Albanian national minority, the province as well as the whole country through a democratic solution.
The international community certainly plays a decisive role to direct the process towards reaching a democratic compromise and rejecting violent and unilateral solutions, Kostunica pointed out.
