Serbian Prime Minister Vojislav Kostunica said today, prior to leaving to negotiations on the future status of Kosovo in New York, that Belgrade's message will be that that province will not be independent and that unilateral proclamation of independence would be political underground.
Kostunica told the Tanjug news agency that the Serbian side will make it clear that the difference between an independent state and a unilateral independence is essential.
That is difference between what is legal and illegal, and thus, some kind of political underground, the Prime Minister said.
He reiterated that all acts that refer to unilateral independence are illegal and thus null and void for Serbia.
All UN member states, including the US, have the explicit international obligation to respect sovereignty and territorial integrity of Serbia which is guaranteed by the UN Charter and explicitly confirmed by UN Security Council Resolution 1244. Respect for international law is the only way that can lead us to a compromising and lasting solution, Kostunica underlined.
