Slobodan Samardzic
Samardzic told Russian state news agency Itar-Tass in Moscow that Russia is keeping peace and stability in the region noting that Kosovo-Metohija independence would be imposed upon Serbia without Moscow’s support.
Many influential Western countries want to accept the so-called “independence of Kosovo”. Serbia will never be satisfied with that, Samardzic said after meeting with Russian Deputy Foreign Minister Vladimir Titov and Russian representative in the Contact Group Alexandar Bocan-Harchenko.
Samardzic said that an imposed solution for Kosovo-Metohija would cause conflicts and tension in the region and added that the United States, as part of the negotiation troika, fully support the separation of Kosovo-Metohija from Serbia and described it as “part of their geopolitical and geostrategic leanings in this part of Europe”.
Washington is not concerned about democracy but wants to have safe players in the field, the Minister said.
Samardzic also said that the EU is still close to the US stand although there are more and more European countries who oppose this stand.
According to him, the EU needs time to establish a common approach to the Kosovo-Metohija status issue, but the question is whether there is time.
The United States insist that the issue is solved as soon as possible whereas the EU needs time in order to free itself from American influence, the Serbian Minister concluded.
