Serbian Prime Minister Vojislav Kostunica said today at a meeting with Swedish Foreign Minister Carl Bildt that in the process of resolving the Kosovo-Metohija status issue it is of great significance that the threat of adoption of any resolution endorsing seizure of an important part of Serbian territory has been removed completely and forever.
Kostunica said that the insistence by certain countries on favouring Ahtisaari’s plan shows that there is a real danger that Albanian separatists will declare independence by the end of the year.
He said that the international community must immediately send a clear message that any unilateral declaration of independence will be an illegal and void act.
Bildt expressed interest in the details of the plan for substantial autonomy for the province and stressed that he hopes that a solution will be reached through the new negotiations which could be approved by the Security Council.
