Prime Minister Nastase said that the election of Kostunica as Serbian Prime Minister represents a guarantee for the improvement of relations of the two countries, adding that it is necessary to jointly discuss strategies of future cooperation in the fields of politics, economy and culture.
Nastase voiced hope that Serbia-Montenegro and Romania will continue their quest for peace and stability in the region.
Italian Minister of Foreign Affairs Franco Fratini voiced hope that Serbia-Montenegro will successfully continue the process of accession to the European and Atlantic institutions. Fratini said that Italy will continue to provide support to the country and work on the strengthening of bilateral relations and cooperation in a number of fields of mutual interest.
Chargé d' Affaires of the Italian Embassy to Belgrade Raimondo de Cardona, who delivered Minister Fratini's congratulations to the Serbian Prime Minister, stressed that Italy would like its firms to engage more in Serbia. He said that the new Italian ambassador will arrive to Belgrade the next week.
Russian Ambassador to Belgrade Vladimir Ivanovski delivered to the Serbian Prime Minister the letter of congratulations of former Russian Foreign Minister Igor Ivanov, who is the new Secretary of the Russian Security Council. Ivanov said that the formation of bodies of the legislative and executive branch in Serbia broke the deadlock of institutional crisis which seriously hindered democratic and economic changes.
Ivanov said that Serbia can count on the support of Russia in the future as well. He said that Russia is interested in boosting bilateral relations, whose potential has still not been fully used. He pointed out to the need of joint decision-making in order to focus the relations of Russia and Serbia-Montenegro on concrete issues.
Russian Ambassador Ivanovski expressed his congratulations to Kostunica on the election of the new Serbian government and announced visits of Russian state officials to Serbia-Montenegro.
