Massari called for harmonising cross-border cooperation in order to secure borders in the region.
Stressing that organised crime does not respect borders, Massari said that border police officials must be ready to cooperate with their colleagues “from the other side of the border to effectively fight this problem.”
Border police administration deputy head Miroslav Radojicic said that participants in the seminar will exchange experience in border police training as part of efforts to reach European Union standards.
The Belgrade seminar is the fifth seminar of the OSCE South Eastern Europe Cross-Border Cooperation Programme (OSCCP) based on agreements signed at the 2003 Ohrid conference.
Chief training officers of border police from Albania, Bulgaria, Bosnia-Herzegovina, Macedonia, Croatia, Slovenia, Romania and UNMIK police are attending the seminar, with officials form the EU, NATO, Stability Pact and the Geneva Centre for the Democratic Control of Armed Forces participating as observers.
