Compromise solution to Kosovo-Metohija attainable only if US gives up on Ahtisaari’s plan

Serbian Prime Minister Vojislav Kostunica noted today that it is not good that on the eve of new talks on Kosovo-Metohija’s status, the USA is still insisting on Ahtisaari’s plan.

In a statement to the Tanjug news agency, Kostunica stressed how unfavourable it is that Ahtisaari’s plan envisages that NATO should play a role in the province which no other military organisation has ever played in the democratic world.
According to Kostunica, Serbia is ready to take over its share of responsibilities and provide an adequate contribution in finding a compromise solution to the province’s future status.
The Serbian Prime Minister said that such a solution may be reached only if the USA gives up on Ahtisaari’s plan, that is, if everyone adheres to the UN Charter and fundamental principles of international law.
According to Kostunica, Serbia is ready to take over its share of responsibilities and provide an adequate contribution in finding a compromise solution to the province’s future status.
