Decision on temporary halt on return of property in Kosovo breaches right to personal property

Serbian State Secretary for Kosovo-Metohija Dusan Prorokovic stated today that UNMIK Chief Joachim Riecker’s decision to temporarily disable the return of immovable property in Kosovo-Metohija breaches the right to private property which is unalienable throughout the world.
In a statement to the Tanjug news agency, Prorokovic stressed that this decision rewards all usurpers from whom not even through court process could property they illegally appropriated be taken away and returned to the rightful owners.
According to Prorokovic, thanks to UNMIK Chief’s decision, Serbs who lost their property will not be able to return to their lands and homes, which means that the ethnic cleansing campaign, carried out in 1999 and March 2004, has now been given a legal framework.
We must undoubtedly react to this, both politically and diplomatically, and we also must consider the possibility of pressing charges against Joachim Riecker for harsh breach of international principles and norms, said Prorokovic.
