In a statement to the news agency Fonet, Kostunica said that Serbia does not seek anything more than abidance by UN rules which are valid for other countries in the world and should also be valid for Serbia.
According to Kostunica, the joint Serbian and Russian policy, which is based on respect of the fundamental principles of the UN Charter, is being conducted solely to safeguard peace and stability in the Balkans, and thereby, all of Europe.
It is of extraordinary significance that Russia is offering support to the Serbian nation and to Serbia in the struggle to secure respect of law and basic justice, stressed Kostunica.
That is why Serbia, said Kostunica, especially values President Putin’s stand and it is clear that Serbia regards Russia’s principled politics as an affirmation of the deep friendship between the two nations.
The joint Serbian and Russian policy and the friendship between the two nations are not directed against anyone, rather the goal is to secure respect of international law and safeguard lasting peace and stability in the entire region, concluded the Serbian Prime Minister.
Russian President Putin stated that the Serbian nation today is defending the sovereignty and territorial integrity of its country, and that peace in Europe cannot be built on anything except respect of international law.
