That position is that international law, the UN Charter and the Serbian Constitution must be respected and that Kosovo is an integral part of Serbia.
During the meeting with the delegation, led by Congresswoman Melissa Bean, the Serbian Prime Minister said that new, real negotiations between Belgrade and Pristina should be based on the existing Resolution 1244 and under the UN mandate, and that a new resolution should be the result of a compromise reached in new talks.
He pointed to the fact that Serbia has decidedly rejected all draft resolutions because they are all basically preparation for giving independence to Kosovo-Metohija.
Kostunica warned that independence for Kosovo-Metohija would have dangerous consequences not only for the region, but also for many countries in the world which have similar problems regarding ethnic minorities.
Members of the US Congress delegation were interested in solutions proposed by Serbia for the future status of Kosovo-Metohija.
