Serbian Minister for Kosovo-Metohija Slobodan Samardzic expressed satisfaction today with Russia’s rejection of the latest draft resolution on Kosovo-Metohija presented by Britain and France.

In a statement to the news agency Tanjug from Berlin, where Samardzic is accompanying Serbian Prime Minister Vojislav Kostunica on a
one-day visit to Germany, he stressed that the joint stand of Serbia and Russia is that a new Security Council resolution is not needed to begin and successfully conclude negotiations between Belgrade and Pristina.
He added that Serbia also considers that a European Union mission should replace the UNMIK only at the end of negotiations on the future status of the province. He said that an earlier arrival of the mission as proposed in the new draft resolution would prejudice the process of determining status and render negotiations meaningless.
It is our position that negotiations do make sense, but only if they are unconditional and do not have a predetermined outcome, said the Minister and pointed to the fact that Belgrade is conducting a joint policy with Russia on those lines.
We are certain that the number of countries which understand and accept our policy is increasing, said Samardzic.
