Slobodan Samardzic
Samardzic told news agency Tanjug that the text of the resolution will be agreed on in the coming days and will be based on resolutions passed on February 14 and in November 2005.
He explained that the new resolution will set the Serbian position on issues related to Kosovo and give further guidelines for the negotiating process.
The resolution will establish the legal status of Serbia in the international community and Kosovo-Metohija as a part of Serbia, the Minister pointed out and expressed expectation that the resolution will be adopted by the end of July.
Samardzic welcomed the statement of Russian Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov outlining that a decision unacceptable for Serbia will not pass the Security Council.
The Minister reiterated that Serbia and Russia believe that it is not necessary to pass resolutions so that negotiations could be continued, but only to have good political will and the right procedure.
Only after conducting good negotiations and reaching a common and compromise based solution that would be accepted by other members of the international community as well, first of all members of the Security Council, the Contact Group and the EU, could we expect a new resolution that may substitute the existing Resolution 1244, Samardzic said.
