Serbian Prime Minister Vojislav Kostunica said today that Serbia is fully prepared to take part in new talks on Kosovo-Metohija which should result in a new resolution founded on a compromise of the two sides.
Kostunica told the media that thanks to Serbia’s principled and well-conceived policy regarding the resolution of the Kosovo-Metohija issue, considerable results have been achieved so far.
He pointed out that the most important thing for Serbia is that it managed to prevent the adoption of a new resolution in the Security Council whose aim was to enable the province’s independence.
According to Kostunica, Serbia and Russia’s joint policy based on the respect of international law and primarily the UN Charter will help direct the Kosovo status resolution process towards new and proper negotiations.
Serbia is fully prepared for new talks on Kosovo-Metohija which would naturally be organised solely under the UN Security Council mandate. It is natural that we reach the new resolution through successful talks and base it on the compromise solution achieved by both sides, stressed the Prime Minister.
Kostunica added that there are no reasons for the Security Council to adopt any new resolution before new talks commence and the two sides reach agreement.
He stressed it is very important that in the course of this month Serbian parliament confirm the principles upon which our policy for resolving the Kosovo issue is based and determine a clear mandate for conducting all further talks on the province’s future status.
