Central bank to mark 120th anniversary

The National Bank of Serbia (NBS) is marking its 120th anniversary with a stable national currency, hard currency reserves of $3.4 billion and total bank savings of €1.2 billion, said NBS Governor Radovan Jelasic.

As part of the 120th anniversary observance, the NBS, set up on March 16, 1884, will issue a new, 500-dinar banknote, Jelasic told the Tanjug news agency.
Central to the new banknote’s appearance will be the portrait of Jovan Cvijic, a former Belgrade University Rector and former President of the Serbian Royal Academy.
The new banknote is likely to be put into circulation in September, said Jelasic, adding that a certain quantity of 100, 200 and 1,000-dinar banknotes will be withdrawn from circulation.
