Media advisor to the Serbian Prime Minister Srdjan Djuric said today that Serbia and the US can have friendly relations only if the Washington administration refrains from giving support to the policy of an independent Kosovo.
If today's statement of US Ambassador to Serbia Michael Polt that the US is Serbia's friend means that the US government has given up its intention to support Kosovo independence and if that means that the US has given up its draft resolution in the Security Council that gives independence to Kosovo, then it could be said that the two countries have friendly relations, Djuric said in a statement to Tanjug news agency.
Djuric said that Ambassador Polt should know that you cannot take away your friend's territory and that creation of a new Albanian state in the territory of Serbia under US auspices cannot be a pledge of friendship between US and Serbia.
The right question to Ambassador Polt is whether his country would see Serbia as her friend if Serbia supported the creation of a new state in the territory of the US, Djuric said.
