Simic told Tanjug news agency that Serbia is satisfied with the opinion that negotiations are necessary and that they cannot have an outcome that is known in advance prevailed, and added that Serbia still maintains that those negotiations should be serious, well structured and lead to a compromise solution.
According to him, the position laid out by Belgian Foreign Minister Karel Degucht on behalf of the UN Security Council that negotiations on Kosovo's future status should be continued but that they should not last more than four months and should not have an outcome determined in advance, is accepting reality.
But the Serbian government's position is that negotiations should not be limited by time, not because Serbia wants to buy time, but because any time limitations on issues as difficult as the future of the Serbian southern province and Serbian-Albanian relations in the Balkans, cannot lead to their quick resolution.
