In a telephone statement to the news agency Tanjug, Jeremic said that at today’s meeting with Lavrov the text of the resolution was examined and full agreement was reached that the resolution is not acceptable for Belgrade and Moscow, and that a solution should be sought outside the resolution, in direct negotiations between all sides involved.
He recalled that yesterday in a meeting between Russian President Vladimir Putin and Serbian President Boris Tadic held in Zagreb, agreement was reached on establishing intensive communication between the foreign ministries of the two countries on the issue of taking further steps in the process of resolving the issue of the future status of Kosovo-Metohija.
Jeremic stressed that in accordance with that today in Istanbul, in the margins of the Black Sea Economic Cooperation Summit; he held a meeting with Lavrov, where they discussed the details of the new resolution, which is currently in procedure in the UN Security Council.
According to Jeremic, new negotiations are necessary and only in that way can a solution based on compromise be reached, and only compromise can lead to lasting peace and stability in the Balkans.
That will be the stand which Russia, in agreement with Belgrade, will take at the debate in the UN Security Council, stressed Jeremic.
He said that in the margins of the summit he also had bilateral meetings with foreign ministers of all BSEC member countries.
In all those meetings I presented the official stand of Serbia on the issue of Kosovo-Metohija, explained Jeremic and added that his counterparts expressed great interest in the development of the situation in the province, since the Black Sea region is a place where, unfortunately, there are a large number of frozen conflicts of an ethnic nature.
The Minister said that he sought the support of all Black Sea region countries for Serbia’s stand that a compromise solution is needed and that it is necessary to continue negotiations which will secure lasting peace and stability in the Balkans.
