At a ceremony at the Belgrade City Hall, Polt announced the formation of a fund for allocation of grants worth $1.5 million, in which process the US Agency for International Development (USAID), through the Municipal Economic Growth Activity (MEGA) programme will support the implementation of economic projects from strategic plans of the ten municipalities that take part in this programme.
He said that MEGA programme, launched at the USAID's initiative, resulted in new investments worth over $700 million, which includes the opening of new jobs.
Director of the Programme for the reform of local self-government in Serbia Steven Rosenberg said that the municipalities of Subotica, Indjija, Zrenjanin, New Belgrade, Loznica, Kragujevac, Uzice, Krusevac, Prokuplje and Vranje are the first confirmation of the effectiveness of this programme that is being realised through newly-formed offices for local economic growth and with the aid of especially trained staff.
