Duty officer, nine customs employees at Batrovci border-crossing customs checkpoint arrested

Belgrade, 15 June 2007

The Serbian Ministry of Interior stated that the criminal police of the Ministry arrested this morning the duty officer and nine customs employees at the customs checkpoint at Batrovci border-crossing.

According to the statement, the arrest made this morning is a continuation of the action which was recently conducted on the territories of Jagodina, Bor, Cuprija, Sid, Kragujevac and Paracin concerning the smuggling and sale of vehicles which are banned for import, and do not fulfill the conditions set by the standard EURO 3.

The Ministry specified that those arrested are duty officer at the customs checkpoint on the Batrovci border-crossing Dragomir Bokic and customs employees Jovo Zobenica, Miroljub Djordjevic, Igor Medic, Bogdan Miljenovic, Ana Kecman, Predrag Basic, Gorjanka Sipraga, Nenad Janackovic and Dragan Demic.

It is suspected that they are responsible for verifying false documents regarding the fictitious entry of private vehicles through the border-crossing into Serbia, whereas the vehicles in fact entered otherwise into Jagodina and other cities, concludes the statement.
