In a statement to the Tanjug news agency, Kostunica reiterated that the province of Kosovo-Metohija cannot be given independence because Serbia, in line with the UN Charter and all effective norms and documents which international order is based on, has the full and legitimate right to demand that the Security Council prevents a violent re-drawing of its state borders.
He pointed out that Serbia has Russia’s full support regarding its principled demand that any resolution taking away 15% of Serbia’s territory should be put to an end in the Security Council.
The sooner all advocates of Kosovo independence realise that Ahtisaari’s proposal has definitely fallen through and will never be adopted by the Security Council, the sooner new room will be created for a resumption of talks aimed at finding a compromise solution, stressed the Prime Minister.
He recalled that as regards this matter, Serbia has put forward several concrete ideas which can be useful for the continuation of negotiations.
