Media Advisor to the Serbian Prime Minister Srdjan Djuric said yesterday that the Serbian government delegation, following its visit to Russia, is very satisfied with the talks that Serbian Prime Minister Vojislav Kostunica had with Russian President Vladimir Putin.

Djuric told news agency Beta that during the talks, the joint policy of Russia and Serbia on the Kosovo issue has been confirmed which had been established during the meeting of Putin and Kostunica in Saint Petersburg a year ago.
He said that on the basis of already known principles, above all respect of sovereignty and territorial integrity of existing states, active activities in finding a compromise solution to Kosovo-Metohija need to be continued.
To Serbia it is of utmost importance that President Putin expressed Russia’s firm support to Serbia that no resolution that would cut Serbia and create an independent Kosovo in our territory would pass in the UN Security Council, Djuric said.
Commenting on the statement of US President George Bush in Tirana, Albania, urging quick action to turn Kosovo into an independent state, Djuric recalled that the UN Security Council is in charge of the status issue under the valid Resolution 1244 and the UN Charter and not the United States.
According to Djuric, after yesterday’s meeting of Kostunica and Putin in Saint Petersburg it is completely clear that the independence of Kosovo-Metohija cannot pass in the UN Security Council.
