Media Advisor to the Serbian Prime Minister Srdjan Djuric said yesterday that the meeting between Prime Minister Vojislav Kostunica and Russian President Vladimir Putin on June 9 in St Petersburg comes at a very crucial time, when it has become obvious that Ahtisaari’s plan regarding the future status of Kosovo-Metohija has failed and cannot be accepted by the UN Security Council.

Serbia and Russia have a harmonised policy regarding Kosovo-Metohija, which is based on the principled stand that the UN Charter must be respected, which implies, respect of the territorial integrity and sovereignty of all UN member states, said Djuric to the news agency Tanjug.
He stressed that since Ahtisaari’s plan has met with failure, Kostunica and Putin will have an important opportunity to examine new and fresh ideas to start a new cycle of negotiations, in order to reach a compromise solution for the future regulation of the southern province.
The meeting between Kostunica and Putin is scheduled to take place on June 9 in St Petersburg, during the International Economic Forum. It will be the fifth meeting between Kostunica and Putin and the third since Kostunica has been heading the Serbian government.
