Temporary compensation payments to displaced persons from Kosovo-Metohija begin

Head of the sector for temporary compensation payment at the Serbian National Employment Service Bosko Latkovic said today that post offices have started paying out temporary compensation to internally displaced persons in Kosovo-Metohija for December 2006.
In a statement to the news agency Tanjug, Latkovic said that internally displaced persons who live in the territory of Kosovo-Metohija will receive approximately RSD 11,000, while for those who moved to central Serbia the sum is RSD 4,500 until the budget is adopted.
According to Latkovic, the temporary compensation payments began on September 1, 2003, in accordance with a conclusion passed by the Serbian government in July, 2003.
He explained that the conclusion relates to all persons who were employed in companies in Kosovo-Metohija on June 9, 1999, and did not receive salaries.
In the beginning, payments were received by 15,000 persons, later that number increased to 26,000, and at present there are nearly 23,000 recipients, said Latkovic adding that these persons also receive payments from the pension and health insurance funds.
