Jeremic told a press conference that Stabilisation and Association Agreement (SAA) was discussed with the EU Enlargement Commissioner today and that both agreed that SAA talks should resume as soon as possible.
He added that they also agreed that the precondition for that exists, which is readiness of the new government to fully cooperate with the Hague tribunal, that will be one of the priorities of the government formed yesterday in Belgrade.
The Minister announced that after
initialing the agreements on readmission and visa relaxations today, talks on full liberalisation of the visa regime with the EU will commence tomorrow in Brussels.
When speaking on Kosovo-Metohija, Jeremic said that the position of the present government remains unchanged as compared to the former government.
Serbia expects negotiations on the future status of Kosovo-Metohija to resume as soon as possible and is ready to participate in reaching a compromise and continuing direct or any other negotiations and will not accept the province’s independence, Jeremic said.
Rehn said that with the newly elected government Serbia has got a chance on its EU road and hailed the new government’s resolve to integrate into the EU and cooperate with the Hague tribunal.
He expressed expectation that the government will implement the cooperation with the tribunal and added that after that, we can expect the resumption of SAA talks, which is precondition for EU membership.
