During the visit of the Romanian delegation to the Ministry for Diaspora, Vukcevic said he was pleased because of their arrival to Serbia and their interest in learning Serbian, adding that they will always be welcome here.
President of the Association of Serbs in Romania and member in Romanian parliament Slavomir Gvozdenovic thanked the ministry on cooperation and understanding and recalled that according to the last census there are around 22,58 Serbs living in Romania.
He said the Serbian community there is trying to preserve Serbian culture and specified that there are 57 Serbian Orthodox Churches in Romania, 12 schools and Dositej Obradovic grammar school in Timisoara.
According to Gvozdenovic, although Serbs have their representatives in Romanian parliament and receive state subsidies they also have many unresolved problems, such us restitution, resolution of status through a law on minorities and studies of Romanian students in Serbia and vice versa through an exchange process at state level.
The Romanian visitors were given a warm welcome and a tour of the capital was organised for them – visits to the Serbian Orthodox Church Museum, the Cathedral Church and a sightseeing tour of Belgrade, as well as visit to the St. Sava’s temple.
