Stojkovic told the press that there are no legal obstacles for setting up a network of special prosecution offices in Serbia so that the country could be better engaged in fighting organised crime, terrorism and cyber crime.
Organised crime in the region is getting stronger and only a solid network of prosecution offices can oppose it, said the Minister.
Special Prosecutor for organised crime Slobodan Radanovic said that the opening of the office is one of the key goals in 2007 and announced that soon more offices will be opened in Kragujevac and Nis, as well as in Novi Pazar if need arises.
Novi Sad District Prosecutor Zoran Pavlovic said that in the newly-opened office in Novi Sad six people will be employed, two deputy prosecutors and four associates.
Pavlovic said that the office has already been forwarded several files, adding that these cases were previously processed by the Novi Sad District Prosecutor as part of the precriminal procedure.
State Prosecutor Slobodan Jankovic recalled that on June 1 the new Law on precriminal procedure will come into force through which prosecutors will be authorised to handle these procedures.
I personally believe that prosecutors will perform this task properly since they passed all the necessary training courses and have enough experience, and I therefore do not expect any problems once this law is enforced, said Jankovic.
