Speaking at the First central Serbia investment conference held in Kragujevac, Sekulovic said that decentralisation of state property should be carried out as soon as possible so that local self-governments could manage city building land on their territory.
He said that last year Serbia pulled in $5 billion in foreign direct investments, which is three times more than in 2005. He added that the process of privatisation in Serbia should be wrapped up late this year and that next year, only greenfield investments should be expected.
The aim of the investment conference is the positioning of the region, attraction of investments and creation of a new image of the business community of the towns and municipalities of central Serbia.
Apart from representatives of towns and businessmen from central Serbia, also present at the first conference were representatives of the Korean, Danish, Indian and Polish embassies in Serbia, the Russian and Croatian chambers of commerce, as well as representatives of the Friedrich Ebert Foundation from Germany and representatives of Italy’s regions of Liguria and Piedmont.
On this occasion the convention of central Serbian towns and municipalities and business associations was signed and it aims to promote and announce joint integrated activities to increase the competitiveness of the region of central Serbia in the foreign direct investment market.
The document was signed by representatives of regional chambers of commerce of Kragujevac, Pozarevac, Uzice, Kraljevo and Krusevac, as well as municipal representatives of Kragujevac, Paracin, Knic, Despotovac, Arandjelovac and Pozarevac.
The conference took place under the auspices of the Ministry of International Economic Relations, the Serbian Chamber of Commerce and the Serbian Investment and Export Promotion Agency (SIEPA).
