Lalovic said that the agreement is aimed at reducing the number of injuries and professional diseases at work in the construction sector. He announced that an action plan for security and healthcare at work will be adopted within the next 45 days.
The Minister explained that the agreement came as a result of dialogue between trade unions, employers and the government.
He added that the goal is to work on prevention measures, i.e., preventing lethal injuries and injuries at work, and not on sanctioning those who violate regulations.
Lalovic also said that the Law on safety and healthcare at work as well as numerous by-laws were adopted.
President of the Serbian Employers Union Rato Ninkovic said that the Union’s main motive was to reduce gray economy in construction and announced that the Union will insist that construction activities are returned to the legal flows.
President of the construction trade union Dusko Vukovic said that last year 54 workers were killed, 23 of whom were construction workers, adding that nearly 950 injuries at work were registered in this sector.
There are 110,000 people employed in the construction sector in Serbia, 25-30% of whom work illegally, he said and added that apart from the state, the project will be financially supported by trade unions and employers as they will be able to ask for some financial assistance from EU organisations and funds.
