At the celebration, on occasion of the station being put into use, Ilic announced new projects to renovate railway stations, for which RSD 230 million will be set aside, and said that in the course of 2007 a new roundabout will also be constructed in Vrnjacka Banja.
He said that in the next two months, railway stations will be modernised in Vrsac, Kikinda and Valjevo, whereas works near Bajmok and Negotin are already in progress.
Works are also underway on Corridor 10, for which an €80 million loan was received from the European Investment Bank for the purposes of reconstructing 93 kilometres of the Corridor’s railroad through Serbia, whereas €60 million, secured from the European Bank for Reconstruction and Development, will be used for the purchase of 1,100 freight coaches, specified Ilic.
He also recalled that each year the Serbian government subsidises the railroad traffic with €100million, adding that electrification of the railroad at Dimitrovgrad and linking of the Belgrade-Bar railway with Corridor 10 have also been planned.
General Director of the Serbian public railway company Zeleznice Srbije Milanko Sarancic said that works on the reconstruction of the main facility at the station were completed in four months, adding that the immediate surrounding of the station has also been improved.
He announced that a tender for the procurement of 1,100 freight coaches will be called, and added that at the upcoming tourism fair in Belgrade the first coach adapted for persons with special needs in this part of Europe will be presented.
Also present at the opening ceremony were presidents of the Vrnjacka Banja and Kraljevo municipalities, Rodoljub Dzamic and Milos Babic respectively.
