Head of the department for primary production and processing at the Ministry and advisor in the twinning project Darko Jaksic stressed on the occasion that in Serbia more than two million hectolitres of wine is produced annually, which in a regional perspective, is on the level of Croatia and Macedonia, while it is less than the quantities produced in Romania, Moldavia and Bulgaria.
Serbia is at the forefront among European countries with an average consumption of 1.6 litres of wine per head, said Jaksic and specified that average consumption of table grapes per head in Serbia is 1.3 kilograms. He added that last year 360,000 tonnes of grape was produced.
Serbia imported more wine than it exported and in the structure of import of all beverages, wine accounts for almost 70%, while the remaining are other alcohol drinks, soft drinks and juices.
Jaksic said that the greatest amount of wine is imported from Macedonia, over 85%, while Serbian wines are exported to Bosnia and Herzegovina, Germany and Austria.
